Drowning at Northampton Campground

Postby Gail & Steve Collins » Tue Jul 24, 2012 4:54 pm

For those that may not see the Capital Region news, we had a 4 year old boy drown on Sunday afternoon in the Northampton Beach State Campground. Best we can tell, he was in a part of the lake shore area that is not monitored by the lifeguards. I was on the ambulance crew that responded to the incident, so I can only pass on information that is public knowledge and has already been reported in the media. We're all deeply shaken by this tragedy and it will take us quite a while to begin to recover.

Since we all know that everyone swims off their campsites at FCP, I simply want to remind all of the Fish Creek family to take extra care and caution in and on the water. Never go in the water alone. Keep an eye on the little ones all the time when they're on the shore or in the water. Think safety all the time.

Happy Camping!

Sad indeed.

At Fish Creek I worry about the occassional campers that swim quit far off their sites without a spotter in a boat/kayak, or simply float out where boats are quite active.

:( Very sad to hear news like this, just recently (last week) there were also two drownings around our area..You always have to have your kids and adults alike visible at all times..My condolences to the family at this sad time...
