CampADK Trip Report - May 20-22, 2016

Fish Creek - Victoria Day Weekend report

Was not too busy this weekend, weather was decent, warm, occassionally shorts weather. As usual for this time of the year, we chose a site along the windy shore. Came in as a walkup and chose Site 84

. Blackflies were not too bad compared to some other years.

No work has been done on the boat launch so far, so bring your 4 wheel drives!

Katie is doing FCP ice runs on the weekends and wood runs into Rollins. As per past years, she is not allowed to sell wood in Fish Creek. Gene has that vendors license. No sign of him yet this season. Katie is looking into the possibly of doing ice cream as well, to replace the previous ice cream truck, but nothing definite at this time.

Loons are out, a few boats are in.

Trading Post is open and fairly well stocked. Phil has a new higher speed wifi connection this year (no password required). It is free for the first 1/2 hour.

Hickoks is open for the season too.

Lots of fireplaces being assembled up in Rollins. Sounds like these are destined for other area campgrounds however.

Phil will be running a Cafe called 'Adirondack Perk' serving lunch and dinner over at the old restaurant across from Hickok's (previously known a Mama's Pizza).

Beans and Bakery will not be running through the campground this season.

Rollins Pond Boat Rentals should be open shortly.

Cheers from Site 84

Some photos from the weekend.

Kate is ready for the black flies! They weren't bad however compared to other years at this time...

Still lots of random wood available. This birch turned out to be still a bit on the wet side however...

Image

Lots of fireplaces were being assembled up in Rollins. Sounds like they are destined for other area campgrounds however. FCP and Rollins did get their share of new fireplaces however this year, as in past years...

A decent amount of kayakers were out along with a handful of boats, mainly fisherman...

Boat launch is still in rough shape. Be sure to bring your 4 wheel drives to pull out your boat!

Love the view of the ponds from the back of our newly renovated Cabin Cruiser....

Cabin Cruiser is complete!

Thanks for the great info Dave. Glad to see a local business trying to make it - will definitely visit them. Unfortunately we have had to deal with too many old crumbling fire places at Rollins. I still do not understand why people insist on using the fire place to split wood?! Cone Cabin will serve ice cream? That will be tough with Donelly's close by. Nice trailer!

Stopped in at the Cone Cabin again on Sunday. They are getting lots of business indeed. They have food too, not just ice cream. Couldn't get a coffee there though lol.

It was mid-60s when we left last Saturday. It had hit 68 earlier, but a good rain cooled it back down.
