Re: Quiet wooded campsite near the water?

There are also some sites off of floodwood road that are on the water but again you will need to use a pit privy. For the follensby sites you can get to them by parking in the boat launch parking lot. There is a trail off to the right that goes around the water. There are several designated sites a ...

Re: Dock at site 115

Docks left over at a site are up for grabs by anyone. You don't see it much anymore but use to see people towing them around on Saturdays and Sundays in season. For myself I hide my dock for reuse the following year. Prior to that I would tie a couple pieces of lumber to the boat trailer.

Re: CLIFF JUMPING

You may take a look at the big rock along Racquette pond you can probably see it from the fair grounds. The other place I can think of is on the Ausable river on the road to Whiteface near where the Wilderness Inn is. You will see many cars parked there on a hot day and is a popular place to jump of...

Re: Interesting pending legislation

We have had several bad situations that needed curbing prior to the final removal from the campsite. They occurred when the individuals threatened the ranger. It would be nice to get back to the old days where disruptive behavior was instantly corrected before it got out of hand. Hope it goes through

There is also a faucet on the opposite side of the road from site 1W as you come out of the station take a left towards the old bull pen parking lot. It will be on your left just before the fence post. After you can swing into the parking lot and loop back to the main camp road by going left

Re: Quiet wooded campsite near the water?

If you don't mind ruffing it a bit, island camp in follensby clear pond. Just North up the road from FC in the parking lot before the bridge is a parking lot or further down the road at the boat launch. Very quiet. my favorite site is to the left straight back on the last big island on the back sout...

Re: A great place to eat in Saranac Lake

Not in Saranac but may want to give it a try. The Deli / Pub as you head north from Tupper lake at the bottom of the hill on the East side of the road. Had heard it was good so gave it a try and was delighted with the results.

Re: Camping courtesy

The generator situation goes beyond FC. Went for the weekend at Keuka where the sites are not on the water and are almost identical to each other. Some have electric but are all the same size with vegetation separations. We choose a non electric site in an electric section 1/2 do 1/2 don't. Took a s...

Camping courtesy

At the end of our trip to FC took the trailer to the waste dump site for the usual. While there, a guy came up with a blue container, put a rock on the lid to keep the pipe open then simple dumped the contents of the tank on the ground. Drove away while the offensive contents ran into the pipe. Oh c...

Re: Solar Panel in Fish Creek

The main thing is battery usage the co2 and smoke detectors in most units use a bunch of power so we canceled them and installed the 9 volt battery variety. The next user is the interior lights which we changed several to LED bulbs. Following that is the water pump which we only switch on when neede...

Re: Hybrid trailers in Fish Creek

If the bunk seals were sprayed with Silicone once or twice a year they would not dry up. mine is 20 years old and has no problems there. The main thing and bared repeating is on a new unit, check the caulking around anything that comes through the shell. If buying used be sure to crawl underneath an...

Re: Hybrid trailers in Fish Creek

hybrids work well where you pull less trailer but when open they are a lot bigger. The only problem you will encounter over a regular box trailer is dew builds up like in a tent or pop-up. There are two ways of dealing with it 1) leave the vent open a bit and slightly open the windows on both sides ...

Re: Hoel Pond

Hoel Pond is stocked by the DEC with either landlocks or lakers and have known people who caught fish there. It is surrounded by cottages and has the regular sort of fish as you would see at fish creek other than the stocked. The wind tends to be at the south east end of the pond which is normal con...

Re: Maneuvering Your Trailer

I use two colored rods with magnets at the bottom and a V shape at the top of on. Put that one on the hitch extension and the other on the trailer clip (top of cup). Back the car up until the trailer rod is in the V and I'm done. Of course the convertible is the easiest to hitch up or back the boat ...
