Re: Fish Creek Not Opening

I've watched the governor's news conference every day and the phases are scheduled to be two weeks apart UNLESS an outbreak occurs and then the next phase won't begin on schedule. So, Phase 1 SHOULD begin in the North County on May 15th - the only requirement we haven't met is to have the required n...

Re: black bears

A few years back my husband was out mountain biking - was returning back to Fish Creek on the road from Rollins - when a black bear and two cubs crossed the road right in front of him. He slammed on the brakes and fortunately mama & cubs kept going. He got a great picture though!

Re: Prison Break.

Thank you for your apology. My mom (age 86) and son were literally on the edge of the first search area. My son would drive through three to four roadblocks in a 15-mile trip to get to work. There was a roadblock at the top of my mom's road as well. I spent a few days with her, and we couldn't even ...

Re: Prison Break.

For those of you making jokes -- this has all been a very real and present threat to those of us who live in the area. Not so funny when it is in your back yard!

Re: Best May ever!!!

There is an extremely high risk associated with any fires right now because of the lack of rain. I live about an hour north of Fish Creek and a home burned to the ground -- it was started by a spark from an outdoor gas grill!

Ice Status April 25

Ice is gone from all the ponds at Fish Creek Campground. You can paddle to Floodwood easily, but Floodwood was pretty well covered with ice yesterday. The ice there is very thin and I expect it will be gone within a day or two.

Re: Reservation Proposal

I've been reading all of the posts on this with mixed feelings. While it would be nice to be able to rent the sites that wind up being vacant, you have no way of knowing the reason behind the vacancy. In April, we paid for a long weekend. However, we received notification early on Saturday afternoon...

Re: Water

People use what is called a "water thief". It is very easy to make or inexpensive to buy.

We decided to head home today. We're both retiring at the end of June, so there will be plenty of warm weather to camp!

Re: Opening Weekend April 12, 2013

Well, we made it for opening night. However, a family emergency called us home mid-afternoon on Saturday. :( The snow wasn't too bad. We checked out the sites we have booked this summer and are quite happy with our choices!

Re: Opening Weekend Site List Extended

I, too, look forward to opening weekend. However, road conditions will need to improve quite a bit for us to head out with our rig. :(

Re: Opening Weekend Site List Extended

FYI - Road conditions are bad enough in the region that schools either closed or had a two hour delay. Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake were among the closures. 11:30 a.m. and still raining with temps holding at 30 degrees here at home (roughly one hour north).

Re: Opening Weekend Site List Extended

We plan on being there, but haven't reserved because of the 3-night deal. I'm glad to hear more sites are open. That will guarantee that everyone who wants to show up will get a site. We pulled the trailer off its winter space (on the other side of the barn) up to its summer space (next to the house...
