Re: What’s going on with Hickoks for 2019?

I heard a rumor last year that the Donaldsons folks were going to buy it. I think the number was $1.4 million, or somewhere in there. I go there everyday while at FCP, I hope nothing ever happens to it. I have been in that place since the 70's, it's an FCP institution!

Re: I expected a ton of cancellations by now...

We're trying to get to 7/20 for seven nights. The snag is we need two sites together (2 campers, screenhouse, one tent, one dock, two boats) for the 8 of us. Oh well, we'll keep looking and hope for the best. If all else fails, we just go up on 7/28, no big deal. Everyone has to get PTO requests in ...

Re: I expected a ton of cancellations by now...

Well, I check 3x a week, and still, I am not seeing the slew of cancellations I had anticipated. Maybe everyone is just going to keep both weeks this year, since RA does not seem to add inventory back in the system if the campers don't show up within 24 hours, or whatever the guideline is these days...

Re: I expected a ton of cancellations by now...

We have 2 sites, 222 and 223. It's a pain trying to get two together, as I'm sure you can imagine. But, it worked out OK. We'd still like to move a week earlier, but two cancellations, side-by-side, seems rather unlikely in the same week. We'll hope for the best! Come on Spring! The fat, furry roden...

I expected a ton of cancellations by now...

Well, I was hoping the masses would have started to cancel the first week of their two-week reservations. Now that many folks are booking a week earlier than their intended arrival date to ensure they can secure a spot, I thought I would see a ton of available sites, but that does not seem to be the...

Re: Reservation Issues

Agreed! In the way old days, my parents used to make next years reservation the morning we checked out. It was a 12-month window back then. Times were so much simpler. Now, the anxiety gets a bit overwhelming, as does the frustration.

Re: Reservation Issues

I see RA decided to implement the Captcha feature on the booking portal in the last couple of weeks. It wasn't there when we first began to try to reserve a site three weeks ago, but it was this past weekend and the weekend before. Not only is the RA site horribly outdated, clunky, wonky and nearly ...

Re: Reservation Issues

RA should disallow any changes in the first half of any reservation made. I thought they disallowed changing the original check-in date to a later date? We took my boat around the sites the night before I trailered it to come home. RA stated the park was at 98% capacity. We counted at least 77 sites...

Re: Is a kayak/canoe REALLY a boat?

What? You must not be a boater. My gear is 'standard' in the recreational boating world. I see the 26' Donzis with blown 454's and the yellow Checkmate, also with a 454, on the Ponds every year. You could make the argument that those boats may be a bit excessive for the Ponds (but not Saranac, they'...

Re: Reservations

The unfortunate reality is all you need is multiple logins. If you have 5 email addresses, you can have 5 RA logins. Each login affords 2 consecutive weeks of camping on the same site. Eventually, NYS will figure out a better solution than RA, but we're stuck with it for now.

Re: Fire Pit Size?

Well, it varies dependent upon the condition of the fireplace on your specific site. The newer, cast models are 28" wide, I believe. The older, stone varieties are a crap shoot as they are in varied states of disintegration. Most of the sites have a grate either chained, or sitting next to, the...
