Ice Status - Photo Review - 17 to 19th April

Postby Montreal-Kayak » Mon Apr 20, 2015 2:16 pm

Here's an ice status update from FCP to Floodwood.

It is now possible to paddle from Site 35
Click for more info!

-50 up to Floodwood.
Sunday we had to find our way through some light melted ice but the channel is probably easy to find now.

As of sunday afternoon, FCP and Floodwood themselves were still frozen.

Less snow on the ground than last year same date but more ice coverage between FCP and Floodwood.

Good thing we postponed by a week - last weekend it would have been impossible to reach Floodwood.

Pics on the campsite are views from #36.

Excellent! Lots of great photos. Have not ventured up the creek that early in the season, to chicken lol.

Anybody else there or just you two? Any snow left on Fish Creek Peak?

Thanks for sharing!

We are headed to Fairhaven Beach SP this weekend with a small group. We 'might' end up at Fish Creek on the way back, not sure yet. Work on our trailer and work are putting a damper on our usual early April camping.

Hi Dave !

There was only 3 or 4 (or maybe 5) other sites occupied this week-end...
1 big motor home (maybe the same as last year ?) in front of WC, a small one that arrived Saturday + 2 or 3 sites with regular tents and some loud music :( that stopped before we went to have a chat with them... ;)
Still, they had no clue how their car alarm worked and it would start beeping at any day or night time !

Otherwise we had a very nice weekend even if the nights were a bit cold.
Weather was particularly nice Sunday afternoon so we stayed on the water quite late... and arrived and unpacked late in Montreal.

Up the river we only saw 2 single canoers that were day-trippers in the park ...
Pic 18 with canoer was taken at Copperas pond/stream junction about half a mile from Floodwood.

Not much snow left on the ground at FCP but more ice on the pounds than last year.
I am not sure what you mean by Fish Creek Peak but I have a video of the road starting at #36 and around FCP to the road at the other end while we were searching for not-too-wet wood around the lake.
I could make a screen capture of a specific area if you give me some details...

We also tried to go to Rollins, but I backed-up just before the entrance since I only had my summer tires on (same story as last year) and there was nobody around to help if I got stuck... I also have that part on video.

We might go back in a few weeks (before the high season) since the wild-camping spot at Copperas junction (pic #18) is really nice and would be a good starting point to try to reach Rollins upstream.

You should try at least one early visit to FCP - I am sure it's totally different than in the regular season but it's probably not for everyone.
We found Rollins to crowded in May last year ;)

Give it a try after Fairhaven Beach ! But I warn you, Canada goose are still all over the place !

Really? A bunch of us are headed to Fairhaven this weekend. Must be warmer there (going to be +8C) due to all that warm water in Lake Ontario lol.
