Considering going to Meacham Lake Campground just south of Malone? This is a great spot for a more quiet lakeside camping trip, great for paddling, fishing and hiking. Features 24 prime waterfront sites as well, some with some great beaches!

929 Photos of 172 campsites are now available at

I wasn't able to take photos of the primitive section at Meacham unfortunately.

Cheers

Just beyond the primitive sites is where I camped starting when I was about 2 weeks old. Back then, families could set up a semi-permanent tent on a platform. We had to arrive by boat or a 10 minute walk, with backpacks. In the mid-60's, that ended. I did tent on one of the official remaining sites a few years back (tent). Beautiful waterfront sites. Thanks for all the work involved with gathering these photos. I shared the site with a cousin who still camps at Meacham.

It was a bigger task than I originally figured so I ran out of time doing the shoot, but did manage to drive up to the primitive area. Its a long way up there! The gate was closed so I couldn't drive in. It almost looked like that section was overgrown/unused. Is it a popular area?

I'll revisit that section (175-200) another time.

Yes, that are is popular if you like more remote camping, particularly in a tent. There are several sites that you need to walk down into that are very private. The sites are a bit smaller, and you are much farther removed from all the action.
