Best May ever!!!

Postby deerby » Sat May 09, 2015 9:29 pm

We have been at Fish Creek since Thursday and have been enjoying mid-summer weather. There are very few bugs and been able to enjoy camp fires in shorts and t-shirts. This will truly be a May to remember. Planning to stay until the 17th or maybe longer. Very surprised that more campers did not show up this weekend.

OMG!!! The Rangers came around last night to inform us that the wonderful Governor has imposed a statewide ban on open burning until next Thursday. Bad timing on my part as I had just gotten a face cord of new wood. Going to be a lot of cold nights without a campfire.

There is an extremely high risk associated with any fires right now because of the lack of rain. I live about an hour north of Fish Creek and a home burned to the ground -- it was started by a spark from an outdoor gas grill!

I hear the blackflies are brutal right now. We're on our way to Lake Placid for the week then head over for Memorial Weekend. Hope the blackflies take a break that weekend!

The state lifted the burn ban by Friday evening. As far as black flies, have not seen any at all. Been pretty much bug free with the exception of a few noseeums.

Nice! The report I got from someone up near the Fish Hatchery was the black flies were out in droves. Glad to hear there aren't out at Fish Creek! Maybe this will be one of those low blackfly population years on the ponds... would be nice! Headed there Friday.
