Vermont and Lake Champlain

Postby Uplander » Mon Mar 02, 2015 1:55 pm

Found a great spot on Lake Champlain for camping....Button Bay a state park campground that has something for everyone.
Beautiful camping on the shores of Lake Champlain...breathtaking Lake Champlain shoreline...nature center at campground
and a large swimming pool...spotless bathrooms and showers...canoe and kayak rentals...also just up the road the famous
Lake Champlain Museum is a don't miss attraction. Add this to your summer list of must visit spots.
You might also camp at the New York State Park a few miles down the road just over the bridge at Crown Point, New York.
Another Museum worth a visit covering the history of the French and Indian wars and the Revolutionary War...walk the ruins of the Fort at Crown Point along the New York side of Lake Champlain. The campground also sits on the lake's shore right at the bridge that crosses over to Vermont.

Happy Camping

Will have to check that one out! We've had a hard time in the past finding State parks on the water in VT.

Button Bay is our favorite to date in Vermont....however....we spent a lot of time last season exploring Vermont's State Park Campgrounds and focused on lakefront campgrounds. We found several and there are many we never got around to visiting. Half Moon Pond State Park (just minutes from our home) just above Lake Bomseen State Park (both near Fair Haven, Vt/route 4 at NY state line)
Is one I liked. Most sites at this small lake (half moon pond) are lakefront. Great spot for canoe and Kayak...leave your power boat home for this one!...the campgrounds at both Lake Bomseen and Lake St Catherine are better suited for all types of water craft including power boats. These have some lake front sites but most are just near the shore...not on the lakefront. Also up on Lake Champlain you might explore the DAR campground just south of Button Bay and while in that area the NY State campground just over the bridge at Crown Point, NY. ..... another Lake Champlain option is the lakefront campground on the Lake Champlain Islands...consult the Vermont State website to get a complete list with pictures of many sites plus campground maps...ther are two other campgrounds in the far northern zones of Vermont that are on lakes. Plenty of variety all worth exploring. I found the restrooms and showers at the Vermont State campgrounds very well maintained and clean! All the campgrounds had plenty of water taps to refil your tanks and all had dump stations. Overal they were all clean and I'd rate them as A+.

Hope this info is helpful....so many campgrounds....so little time!!!...winter cuts our time short....glad I'm now retired and can enjoy these parks on the weekdays and avoid some of the crowds often seen on weekdays.

Happy Camping!
