Yup. I have been posting all the updates for camping on the NY State Campsite Photos website and the accompanying FB group for campers. See https://www.campadk.com/campsitephotos/covid19

They ust cancelled booking sites for all dates as of yesterday. Was hoping for at least a fall camping season. Who knows. No looking good at the rate CV is spreading.

You'd think they'd keep the campgrounds open. How do you think we're going to social distance?

If they don't open the July 4th, I can't see them opening at all. Horrible.

I booked an AirBnB on USL this year because the RA stuff is getting out of hand with all the overbooking-then-cancelling mess that's been going on. We plan to camp at FCP in the fall to keep the streak alive, if all goes well.

Positive thoughts may not help, but I'm sure they don't hurt. I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy a hard-earned vacation at FCP this summer!

Optimal health!

With things starting to open so soon before being ready I wouldn’t be surprised if we see new cases start to ramp up in 3 weeks. That could delay opening even longer, or they just throw in the towel and just open up everything regardless and it’s everyone for themselves. The next 3 weeks will be telling. I’ve always thought it wouldn’t be till mid summer or later before opening. Maybe not at all this year possibly. Small towns upstate will be at risk with thousands of travellers heading north...

I can't post a screenshot, but the DEC website states all reservations have been cancelled up to May 31, but FCP is slated to open June 1 (with many others), if it is deemed safe enough. That's a big 'IF'.

Thanks for keeping it current Dave and Katie!

As I read it the NY State plan puts "recreation" in phase 4 of the 4 phase reopening plan. Phase 1 starts May 15th. I can't possibly see that they would go to all this effort to try to open the state safely without staggering the phases far enough apart to see how opening in stages affects the increase in COVID cases and preventing a massive second wave. There are no specific dates for phase 2, 3 and 4 but I would think that will happen several weeks or even a month apart to see the effect as new reopening measures take effect. This would suggest "recreation" may have to wait until mid or late summer? Hope I'm wrong on that but trying to keep realistic.

On the bright side New York State is doing well at bringing down the numbers and new cases have fallen to about 1/3 of peak. Meanwhile overall in the US new cases is just starting to come off the peak. No doubt it will be challenging times ahead in reopening so personally I'm not counting on a June 1st opening for our Adirondack camping this season.

Just my thoughts. Time will tell how all this plays out!

Stay safe!

It would seem DEC campsites, Fish Creek included, could open at half capacity, ie every other site or so, depending on location of sites. This would greatly reduce people density in the campsite in general as well as bathrooms and common areas. Or allow even less capacity than that, but still opening the campsite, while managing people density . What level that would be, I don't know, but at least some people could still enjoy these lovely parks in the great outdoors.

I've watched the governor's news conference every day and the phases are scheduled to be two weeks apart UNLESS an outbreak occurs and then the next phase won't begin on schedule. So, Phase 1 SHOULD begin in the North County on May 15th - the only requirement we haven't met is to have the required number of tests per 1,000 people. Phase 2 would be two weeks later on May 29th, Phase 3 would be approximately June 12, Phase 4 approximately June 26th. Looks like our early June trip will be cancelled.

Thanks for posting that Joyce! I couldn’t find how far apart the phases were so this is helpful.
