Rails to Trails Update

Postby CampADK » Sat Feb 13, 2016 10:46 pm

Some news on the Rails to Trails movement. Apparently they just received approval to tear up the rails from Old Forge to Lake Placid. Sounds like this will all happen next fall which means that this will be the second and last year for Rail Explorers. You might want to do it this summer if you haven't already. This will mean that eventually you could bike from Rollins to Tupper Lake for your donuts instead of driving!

"Thursday afternoon the Adirondack Park Agency gave its approval to the joint proposal by the Departments of Environmental Conservation and Transportation for the construction of the first phase of the Adirondack Rail Trail. This is a huge ‘win’ in our six-year fight to convince the state that the best interests of the people, businesses, and economies of the towns along the old and mostly-abandoned New York rail corridor would be best served by a rail-trail for hikers, bikers, skiers, snowmobilers, and the disabled."
