Re: Ice Status - Opening week-end

Just reading last 2 messages... There's definitively more snow south of the border :) Many thanks for the updates and pictures ! The good news is that ice started to melt around the bridge - Depending on Tuesday-Friday temperature, maybe kayak will be possible for a few km upstream next week-end. We...

Re: Ice Status - Opening week-end

C13-P1020777.jpg We might decide to arrive Saturday morning instead of Friday afternoon... Sunday should be ok with slightly higher temperature and no rain. Last year finding dry wood was quite an adventure... see pic ! Kayak gears are all in orders - we did a 2-3 hours trip yesterday... Cold and w...

Re: Ice Status - Opening week-end

G09-P1020842.jpg Thanks for the detailed info :) This morning will be kayak day 1 here around Montreal. Yesterday I found a few safe spots where we should be able to start from. But things changes on a daily base and we might find a big pile of ice this morning. Regarding opening weekend at FCP, ba...

Re: Ice Status - Opening week-end

Hi Dave ! I was looking at some of the WebCam links you gave me last year but it's difficult to see what are the waterbodies conditions in the area... Hopefully, the stream between Fish Creek and Floodwood will be unfrozen. If not, we'll just do some hiking in the area :) Today it was around 10C in ...

Ice Status - Opening week-end

Hello everyone ! Same question as last year, except opening is one week earlier this year. What is the ice status in front of the camping sites or in the area ? Last year, during the 18-21 apr week-end we managed to paddle from the campsite to Floodwood Pond. Any update would be appreciated ! Mario

Re: Ice Off Statistics 2013 vs 2014

Interesting... Only a week difference. I'm really not a specialist but I imagine a very cold winter with more snow than average would result in thicker ice. In the spring, when the ice starts to break windy conditions can also accelerate the melting process. Back home, I think some of the lakes are ...

Re: May 16-19 Kayaking from Rollins

Reservation done :)

Again, Thanks for your suggestions Dave.

Looks like there will be more campers at the opening of Rollins than last week-end at FCP - Around 50% of the opened sites are already reserved.

Re: May 16-19 Kayaking from Rollins

Thanks Dave for the details & suggestions regardings camp sites. We'll have a look at the map and make the reservation tonight. This a by far the most practical interactive (with pictures) campground map I have seen :) We'll see if Blackflies are as bad as they are in some remote northern area o...

May 16-19 Kayaking from Rollins

Hi everyone, We are planning to camp at Rollins for 3 nights from 16 to 19 May. Our main interest is kayaking but we will probably also do one of the following: Visit the Wild center, hike St-Regis or VIC area. Are all sites open at Rollins in May ? Any suggestion for specific camp sites (nice view,...

Re: Ice status 18-21 April

Yes, the road to Rollins was still icy but there would be no problem with a pick-up or at least decent winter tires - I did not take the chance since there was very few people in the campground. Only 2-3 other campsites occupied during the week-end. I think the geese knew we were from Canada... They...

Finally, a few more in front of the camp...

I hope this will help you to have a better idea of the actual conditions.

Re: Ice status 18-21 April

Road to Rollins - did not go since I had my summer tire and there was too much ice/snow further...
Hiking trail conditions around the ponds: not too muddy but stiil a lot of icy areas...
