Re: Reservation Issues

Agreed! In the way old days, my parents used to make next years reservation the morning we checked out. It was a 12-month window back then. Times were so much simpler. Now, the anxiety gets a bit overwhelming, as does the frustration.

Re: Reservation Issues

I see RA decided to implement the Captcha feature on the booking portal in the last couple of weeks. It wasn't there when we first began to try to reserve a site three weeks ago, but it was this past weekend and the weekend before. Not only is the RA site horribly outdated, clunky, wonky and nearly ...

Re: Reservation Issues

RA should disallow any changes in the first half of any reservation made. I thought they disallowed changing the original check-in date to a later date? We took my boat around the sites the night before I trailered it to come home. RA stated the park was at 98% capacity. We counted at least 77 sites...

Re: Is a kayak/canoe REALLY a boat?

What? You must not be a boater. My gear is 'standard' in the recreational boating world. I see the 26' Donzis with blown 454's and the yellow Checkmate, also with a 454, on the Ponds every year. You could make the argument that those boats may be a bit excessive for the Ponds (but not Saranac, they'...

Re: Reservations

The unfortunate reality is all you need is multiple logins. If you have 5 email addresses, you can have 5 RA logins. Each login affords 2 consecutive weeks of camping on the same site. Eventually, NYS will figure out a better solution than RA, but we're stuck with it for now.

Re: Fire Pit Size?

Well, it varies dependent upon the condition of the fireplace on your specific site. The newer, cast models are 28" wide, I believe. The older, stone varieties are a crap shoot as they are in varied states of disintegration. Most of the sites have a grate either chained, or sitting next to, the...

July 8-16 2018

Well, another banner year in the books! What an amazing week! We arrived on Sunday to sunny, dry and warm FCP, which is an oddity in itself. We quickly set up the gear, installed the dock and launched the boats, all before dinner. The weather was as close to perfect as it gets in the ADKs, with high...

Re: Water Level

We just came home on Sunday after a week on the Ponds. The water level is no different than other years. The launch is a few feet deep, except for under the bridge which is about 2 fow. The channel to USL is between 2.5 and 4 fow. Seems pretty consistent with the last 4 decades or so. Gas was $4.25 ...

Is a kayak/canoe REALLY a boat?

Every year, when it is time to launch the boats for the week, we seem to run in to a gaggle of people clogging the launch with their 'boats'. Most of these watercraft (sorry, they aren't boats, in my opinion) and their owners take their sweet time vacating the launch. They tie down without pulling f...

July 8th can get here fast enough. I'm bringing a first-time camper this year. It'll be hard for any other place to exceed FC, so I hope it doesn't ruin her for life.

Re: Video: VW Future Camper

We'll see if VW is still around after their massive fines for cheating the entire world with fabricated emissions results. It has already cost them over $30 BILLION . Now the Audi CEO is in jail also. I read they may incur another $30 BILLION on top of that. OUCH! I bet FIAT ends up owning it all. C...

Re: Well, the calendar says FCP is OPEN!!!!

It is only 33 days until I make my annual pilgrimage to FCP for the 48th consecutive year! I came back to NY during my military service solely so I wouldn't ruin my consecutive-year streak, and that was over 20 years ago! Where has the time gone? Anyway, busy cleaning, waxing and making electronic u...
