Moreau Lake State Park

Moreau Lake State Park is located at Exit 17 of NY I-87 in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Make no mistake, this park is nothing like FCP. NONE of the sites are on the water. There are, however a few cabins that can be rented that are on the water and afford some very nice camping options. The sit...

Hey Dave:

I assumed you'd know the facts, I appreciate it. Thanks pal! Have a great Boxing Day up there in Canada, eh!

Is the park accessible during the off-season?

Hi all: Happy Holidays! I was considering making a drive up to FC just to walk around for a few hours. I haven't tried to gain access during the late fall/winter months after camping has come to a close. I recall they used to allow hunters to access during the hunting season, but I don't know if tha...

Did it really happen two years in a row???

So, my friends and I logged on to RA Sunday morning to get our sites for July 2018. Shockingly, there were 91 sites available at 8:30 AM. There were, of course, the A-loop and some of the C-Loop sites, but still, that's a significant number available. We didn't get the exact location in the park we ...

Re: Mosquitoes

I left there on July 15, and the bugs were negligible. Those biting flies were worse than the mosquitoes. We had a constant breeze and an eternal fire, so we weren't impacted much at all. Happy Camping!

July 8-15 2017

Well, this year was more like the 'standard' Adirondack weather pattern. We arrived on the 8th at 12:30 PM in a total deluge. It was pouring! Great time when your gear starts out wet before it's even set up. Anyway, the weather cleared in the afternoon and it turned out to be a great evening. We set...

Re: Upper Saranac Lake Wood Boat Parade 2017

Do you have a gimbal of some type to keep your camera so steady while in the wake of other boats? Or do you just have an immensely steady hand? Great video, thank Dave!

Re: Wood Truck

Katie is making ice rounds, but not wood. If you end up going out to Tupper to see George or John (by the old Marketplace), make sure to ask them for the seasoned wood! We didn't ask one year about 6 years ago and the wood was super wet. He has a stash, you just have to ask to be sure to get it. To ...

Re: Lake trout fishing in Upper Saranac...

Yeah, the bass fishing has been pretty good around the entire campground. We routinely catch smallmouth between 2 and 3 pounds from our dock. We usually keep one for breakfast, and all the rest go back to get bigger and make more. The secret lure for the bigger boys in FC is the Chug Bug, but don't ...

Re: Lake trout fishing in Upper Saranac...

Thanks! I am running lead core right now. Not really a fan because of the line drag in the water, but without a line counter reel, the colors make it much easier to determine bait depth based on length of line out vs boat speed. I still think I am going to switch to braid before I head up next weeke...

Re: How's the weather?

Good Lord! We make our way up on the 8th. Lets hope the clouds dry up this week (sorry current campers!) and give us uninterrupted sunshine for the coming weeks! Rain or shine, we're still coming. Beer tastes fine in the rain.

Re: First Time

You will love it at Fish Creek! The area is abound with paddling opportunities. Do yourselves a favor and head up Fish Creek (the actual creek at the boat launch. No motors allowed up there. Tons of flora and fauna, light current, multiple smaller ponds (Copperas, Little Fish Creek, Floodwood (the l...

Re: So excited- Less than 2 weeks

I am going to Fish Creek, but I am in the same boat! We arrive on the 8th and I can not wait to get there. Just the smell as you get closer to the campground brings back so many memories from my childhood. Do you know that unique scent? Part bacon, part fire, part forest, part clean ADK air? If I co...

Re: Successful reservation on the first attempt...

Perhaps the cyclic nature of the economy is swinging back the other way, and people who have chosen to go camping over the past few years are now ready to book hotel rooms again. I can't remember the last year there were over 60 sites available on booking day, it has generally been between 15-25. I ...

Successful reservation on the first attempt...

Wow! A friend of mine and I logged on to RA today to get our sites for next July. We need two together, which has become increasingly difficult over the years. However, there were 61 sites available this morning with two that met our limited needs. We got both sites on the first try, right at 9 am! ...
