Re: Reservation Issues

I agree with Dave. There have been to many vacant sites when we get there, which means many people are reserving then canceling. I even wonder if I can even get a site for next summer with the amount of people I must be competing against. I do reserve for 2 weeks and stay two weeks, no fooling aroun...

Re: Reservation Issues

I was just session timed out on Reserve america. I know the robot check is for 2 minutes. Does anyone know the session duration? There is no warning on this and will appear normal until you hit the booking button then it tells you the session has ended and you need to log in again. Furthermore the r...

Re: Is a kayak/canoe REALLY a boat?

About misinformed, I have been run over by such a boat when in a sail canoe with the sail up by a what I would call a to large boat. It was operated by someone who thought traveling at high speeds across the ponds was a normal thing while pulling teenagers on skis. They also thought it was a good id...

Re: Reservation Issues

Another thing, there is a timed interval for the robot check. It appears to be between 2 and 3 minutes. Wonder if this will be the great equalizer for reserving a site. The way I see would be to have several people (rather than several computers with one person) apply the reservation. Should make th...

Re: Reservation Issues

Well RA has installed a Bot preventative. Before the reserve site button is available you must click that you are not a Bot. Every time the screen refreshes you must again click that you are not a bot. This also prevents a person from clicking like crazy to reserve a site since the turn around from ...

Re: Reservation Issues

I agree on smaller equipment. I can pretty much put my rig on any site. what I have heard is that it is a nightmare to get a site in Yosemite because of bots accessing RA. Hopefully that will not be the case when I get to my cross country trip in a couple years. By the way, there is a really good bo...

Re: Reservation Issues

If you think that is bad. I have just discovered a couple Bots that will grab sites for you. What I am waiting for now is a second market that will sell sites (with a bump) that were snatched using such software.

Re: Is a kayak/canoe REALLY a boat?

Many times there are groups of day use people that just come in the park to paddle the creek. Though there are also people that could launch and land their craft at the picnic area they don't realize there is another way. If you have a boat that is 4000 lbs with a 200 hp engine, you are on the other...

Re: Lake trout fishing in Upper Saranac...

The main thing is the spot for lakers. There is a ridge to deep water off of doctor's island, or the straight by Chapel. I have also spotted fish a the drop off at the narrows from Saranac Inn. Bass fishing has been really good this year. Picked up an 7 8 pounder smally off of Saranac inn weed bed a...

Free showers

In case anyone did not notice. FC showers are now free. No quarter necessary, just press the button. I takes a couple seconds to recycle when the water stops but great. Plus the hot water appears to be better since the broken showers don't keep running.

Re: Anyone use a hybrid trailer at FCP?

Pick up some (Never Wet) and spray the outside of the zippers and such on the tent ends. They are the only place we have ever had a problem except for dew on the inside and only venting will help that.

Re: Anyone use a hybrid trailer at FCP?

The starcraft we have is just over 20 years old. We purchase a RV deep cycle battery that will last for us about a week and half. Then i usually swap that with the trolling motor battery for the last couple days or get the battery charged at hickocks. As said, the biggest eaters of battery life are ...

Re: Anyone use a hybrid trailer at FCP?

hybrid "ends" are like tents and subsequently act like tents. Seasoning does not enter into it. Some manufacturers tape seal their stitching and some don't. If you experience leaking that stops it is because the stitching has swelled during the rain and that your seams are not taped. There...

Re: Anyone use a hybrid trailer at FCP?

We have a hybrid and have camped for many years using only batteries for 2 weeks. One battery will last for about 10 to 12 days. The trick is to convert things that run off the battery to self contained. The smoke and CO2 sensors are big users since most trailer manufacturers use cheap ones. So I co...

Re: Heat for campers

If you are tenting there are several things. First get a good tent that vents well. Second insulation between you and the ground helps out a lot. The loft of a sleeping bag is lost on the part you lay on. To help out pile leaves or pine needles under the tent which will provide more insulation and h...
