Re: Reservation Proposal

I would like to see the "No Show" clause enforced. When you make your reservations there is a clear stipulation that your site is occupied that day or your reservation is forfeit along with your fees. I think If the camper makes a call to the campgrounds with an explanation that this of co...

Re: Reservation Proposal

I don't know that there is a perfect system. If you make people reserve for longer times ( a week) they will book a week then maybe only show the weekend. You shouldn't penalize someone who paid for a site then had a horrible misfortune happen to them causing them to come late or leave early or not ...

Re: Food and Bears

There are bears at Rollins, My son left a grill on the fireplace last year and got a visitor after cooking pork roast, and there was one running through the campgrounds a few years before then. So even though they aren't common place they are around. You are most likely safe but should use common se...

Re: More NY State/DEC Campground Photos

Dave and Kate, I have to say thanks for all the time you put into this site and all the information you provide here. Then I have to let you know how jealous I am that you have the ability to spend the time doing this. Not to mention the technical know how to get it put together. In my "someday...

Re: FCP One Nighter - May 8, 2013

We came home today from FCP because the blackflies had started to swarm. The wind was trying to keep them down but they were pesky today. No problem up til this morning. I was a little sad that the showers weren't open yet. Rangers weren't sure when they would get them open. They were hoping for som...

Re: 2 Weeks to Go!

We were hoping to come up and do a little trout fishing but I don't know if the ice will be off Whey. I don't think I can convince my husband that bringing a snow shovel can be as much fun as fishing poles. I'm pretty sure its illegal to ice fish for trout in April.

Re: CampADK Trip Report Sep 13-16, 2012

We were on 89 til today. The leaves are changing nicely now. Were you there with the coyotes? At least that's what they sounded like. A couple of night you could hear them across the pond yelping and howling. One night I'm sure they were outside the camper yipping. Made our dog crazy. I was ...

Re: Any Pearch in those waters

If you want trout you can put a canoe in at Whey or take your waders and get some nice ones there just remember its no live bait there and they will check. My brother got some bullheads in Whey this year too so I guess the pond had gotten contaminated with other fish as it does. You can get nice bas...

Re: Severe Storm Hits Fish Creek!

Shadowfiregirl, I agree with Dave in a really strong wind NO canopy or screen room is going to do well. If you really love it take it down. If you need to protect things under or in it do as he advised lower it as much as possible and anchor it to trees If it has sides put them all down and zip them...

Re: How far back can you go?

I remember the purple bus. It had everything on it at least from a kid standpoint. Actually it had staples like bread milk eggs and dry goods, ice and best of all CANDY!!!! It was kind of like a small general store that you could walk into and pick out what you wanted. They had taken out most of the...

Re: Irresponsible Dog Owner

We were at Rollins the week of the 4th and another irresponsible owner let their med sized dog run loose and it pooed on my son's site. My son followed the dog and informed the owner that it was running loose and had left a mess on his site. He also told the owner that the dog needed to be leashed a...

Re: Rollins-St. Regis-Ampersand-Racquet Falls-Black Flies

Are you talking black flies? the little ones that take hunks out of you or deer flies the ones that are house fly size or bigger that will wave welts on you? I didn't have any black flies but the deer flies were out in force.

Re: washing dishes

I would suggest dumping it in the bathroom down a toilet. We always used a basin to wash in and the big pot with our cook set to rinse in when done we took the basin and pot to the BR flushed the basin and rinsed it with the rinse water. When the kids were small they sometimes got a little scrub wit...

Re: Doggie Daycare in Lake Placid?

When you come into the park with your pets you sign an agreement re the regulations. That information is in there so they knew if they could read. Some people are just not very considerate, of others or their pets. Some just don't think the regulations apply to them.
